Limited Edition No. 1 | Box for Creatives

Limited Edition No. 1 | Box for Creatives

The first August Ellery Limited Edition Seasonal Box is being gathered now, and I use the word gathered because assembled sounds too mechanical and bundled sounds like something involving shrink wrap.

Gathered is more accurate.

There are things on the table. Fabric, certainly. Paper, almost certainly. Color, without question. Some useful things. Some small printed things. Some objects that have no business being persuasive and yet are standing there, hands on hips, making their case.

The limited edition box is not finished because the A.E.L.E. box has not finished telling us what it wants to "be" and have us help steward into existence.

This sounds ridiculous until you have found yourself on the threshold of making something new...which I know is most likely anyone who is stopping by our atelier.
Then, to you, you know—and this sounds perfectly practical. (and of course it is)

A good edition has its own process of push and pull--validation and elimination. Put one fabric beside the wrong companion and the whole thing becomes noisy, insistent with no story. Add a small printed card and suddenly the same story shifts and has a front door and possibility. Remove the clever thing that is being a little too "life of the party" and suddenly everything improves. This is one of the truths of making: sometimes the clever thing must go. But something even more wonderful will emerge.
We'll bear the heady weight of editing to create the perfect package.

What we do know:

Edition No. 1 will be finite.

It will come from the August Ellery world of fabric, paper, color, handwork, studio objects, and useful beauty.

It will be made for people who still believe in the joy of opening something, unfolding something, saving a ribbon, keeping the card, and thinking, ah — what can I make from these carefully considered pieces.

What we do not know yet:

The final inventory.

This is not us being coy. The table is overflowing with happy considerations. The conversation is underway. The objects are auditioning.

There may be cloth. There may be paper goods. There may be creative materials, small tools, studio-made pieces, printed notes, patterns, or some other whimsical storybook creature that wanders in from the side door and proves indispensable.

The rule is simple: nothing goes in because there is room.

It goes in because it could be no other way.

A box is a tiny, poetic civilization. It needs a reason to exist beyond “here are several nice things.”

We are looking and listening for that reason now.

When the first edition is ready, the waitlist will hear first.

Until then, onward we go with the process of who makes the final cut!
